KMEG 14 - News, Weather, Sports for Sioux City and Siouxland | Erika Thomas

Erika Thomas

The Midwest is Erika's home. She was born in the Twin Cities and lived in Iowa City for three years before growing up in West Lafayette, Indiana. She attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and graduated with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Economics. Go Tigers!

Erika loves going out into the community and getting to know the people of Siouxland. Every day is different and the folks in our hometowns make coming to work every day a great experience. She started at KMEG in June 2008.

While at Mizzou, Erika reported and anchored for KOMU, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, for two years. She also worked as a Production Assistant at KMIZ, the ABC/FOX affiliate in Columbia, and as an intern in her hometown at WLFI, the CBS affiliate.

While not working, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, being active - working out and training for 5Ks, watching movies, being outdoors, and cooking/eating good food. She also loves to watch (most) sports and follow her teams: the Missouri Tigers, the Minnesota Twins, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Purdue Boilermakers! She is also slowly being converted into a Nebraska Huskers fan.

Animals are also a huge passion of hers. She's adopted three pets from the Siouxland Humane Society - a black cat named Pumpkin, a gray tabby cat named Stella and a Chihuahua named Ruby.

After three and a half years at KMEG, Erika became the co-anchor of the KMEG & FOX evening newscasts at 5, 9 & 10 in January 2012 and loves having the opportunity to give you the latest news every night!

She's always looking for story ideas and would love to hear from you. Email her at ethomas@KMEG.com or call (712) 252-5634 ext. 130.
