Siouxland Gets Winter Blast of Snow

Posted:
SIOUX CITY, IA -

It's something we haven't seen in a while, but snow has made its return to Siouxland.

As of Monday afternoon, six inches have fallen in the metro area, and with a mild winter so far, the return of the flakes have caused some havoc on the roads.

It started coming down early in the morning, and by the time Siouxland woke up Monday snow was everywhere.

Those six inches were causing problems for Siouxland drivers.

With many wrecks, including one that happened in Dakota Dunes.

The folks who didn't venture out were digging out from a snow that could've been much worse.

"I mean, even this heavy stuff here three or four inches, is still not that hard to pick up," says Richard White as he was shoveling snow in Riverside.

Since many schools, including Sioux City's, were closed, kids got the chance to enjoy a day of play; something of a rarity during a winter that hasn't been all that bad.

"I'd say we've been blessed," says White. "We've been passed over, it went south, it went north, went east, we've done pretty good here so far."

Snow on the road isn't something we've had to deal with very much this winter.

If you have to hit the roads when there's heavy snow, give yourself some extra time and take it slow.
