New Casino Could Come to Downtown Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, IA -

"The boat" has been a gambling destination for nearly twenty years, but now Sioux City's casino could be moving onto dry land.

Penn National Gaming, the Argosy Casino's parent company, wants to put a new casino downtown.

The company's just looking for the right 10 acre site to become a draw to Sioux City's business district.

Penn Gaming wants  this new casino to be a "Hollywood Casino" brand, that's a little bit different than what we're used to seeing.

The finished building would feature art deco style architecture.

Altogether it would be a $100 million investment into Sioux City's downtown.

The plan would be to support other downtown businesses with cross-marketing techniques, and Sioux City's mayor says he's all for the move.

"It'll get the traffic downtown rather than on the edge and we hope that will have a positive impact," says Bob Scott, Sioux City's Mayor.

"We always seek to win the wow factor when we're building these types of regional facilities, because we really want to be a draw to bring other people into the community that wouldn't necessarily be coming downtown," says Eric Schippers, the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs & Government Relations for Penn National Gaming.

The Missouri River Historical Development group owns the county's gaming license.

It's suing Penn National, claiming the company's keeping MRHD from shopping around for new casino ownership.

Stay tuned to KMEG 14, coming up we'll find out what MRHD's President has to say about these plans for a downtown casino.
