Siouxland Watches the State of the Union Address

SIOUX CITY, IA -

Many people use the state of the union address to start a political conversation with their friends and neighbors, including folks right here in Siouxland.

Unfortunately, the bad weather played a factor Tuesday night, with poor attendance at one of the many State of the Union Watch Parties, but the people who were there were applauding many of the President's proposals.

There was quite a bit of concern among folks worried about the country's shrinking middle class, the economy was what folks were discussing Tuesday evening.

Many at the watch party agreed with President Obama's plans to rebuild the economy and what he's accomplished so far, but they still say there's a long way to go.

"I think we're in a lot better shape today than we were three years ago," says Jerry Wahlert, an attendee at a State of the Union watch party. "We still have a lot of problems to work through, a lot of things the government needs to work on."

"I think it's up to the average American to be letting their opinions be known, writing their congressman, talking to them about what they want to see done, for the good of our country, not for the good of either party," says Linda Smoley, a State of the Union watch party host.

Regardless of what the President had to say, the people in attendance were just glad to take a more active role in the political process and really start a conversation with their friends and neighbors.
