Future USD Med Students Attend Scrubs Camp

Posted:

(VERMILLION, SD)  Future USD med students spent the day at Scrubs Camp. The university invited nearly 300 high schoolers from throughout the tri-state to campus to learned about the medical field. The students learned med school isn't just for doctors and nurses but plenty of other professionals as well.

"It's important I think, that the students have an understanding that there are other ways of being involved in that team. You may want to be a doctor, you may want to be a nurse, you may want to be a respiratory therapist, you may want to be some other kind of profession," says Jerry Yutrzenka, School of Medicine Health Professions Advisor.

University staff also offered students advice on preparing for college and med school. They suggested shadowing programs and volunteer opportunities to give students a better of idea was the profession is like.
