New Information: Jesus Guerra Arrest Warrant

Posted:

(DAKOTA CITY, NE) We know more about the arrest warrant issued for Jesus Guerra for the 1997 murder of Joaquin Guerrero.

As we first reported Friday night, Jesus Armando Guerra is wanted for first degree murder for killing Joaquin Guerrero "purposely and with deliberate and and premeditated malice".

According to court documents, Guerra is charged with aiding and abetting the murder of Guerrero. The affidavit says it is clear Andrew Orellana shot Guerrero but that he did not act alone - Jesus Guerra participated in the crime from the beginning. The documents say any reasonable person would not give a firearm to someone knowing a crime was going to occur after the gang-related incidents leading up to the murder.

This new information comes as a jury is deciding the fate of Andrew Orellana, the South Sioux City man charged with shooting Guerrero in October 1997. After a seven-day trial, the jury began deliberating Friday afternoon. They will resume discussion Tuesday morning.

The Dakota County Attorney's office has no comment at this time. Defense attorney Bryan Smith says he had no idea about the warrant. It was filed in June, about six weeks after Orellana was arrested and in jail, charged with murder. Of course, we'll have the latest on both Guerra and Orellana as information becomes available.
