(DECATUR, NE) 6-month-old Logan Nathan has VACTERL Syndrome. Logan is now home - he's been out of the hospital for the past few weeks. But his family still needs a lot of help with their medical bills. That's where Logan's Heroes come in.
The small town of Decatur, Nebraska is home to just 650 people. And when one of them needs a hero:
"Small towns are great. Everybody knows everybody and when somebody needs a hand, usually there's somebody there to help you out," says Bruce Nathan, Logan's father.
"Everybody, in their own special way, has been a hero for Logan," says Tracy Nathan, Logan's mother.
After almost five months in the hospital, Tracy, Bruce and Logan Nathan are finally seeing first-hand who Logan's Heroes really are.
"If you look around, our community, our family, our friends, none of this would be possible without them," says Candy Roth, Logan's Heroes.
Tracy's cousin Candy created Logan's Heroes, along with the spaghetti dinner and auction.
"The community, all the local businesses, from Sioux City to Omaha and everywhere in between, Decatur, has really just came through," says Roth.
Allowing the Nathans to forget about the finances, at least for a little while, and focus on their son.
"So I get to be Mr. Mom. Which is good, I get to spend a lot of time with him," says Bruce Nathan. "Hope you're up to Mom's standards."
"They hang out all day together and I call every couple hours for the update," says Tracy Nathan.
"She's so strong. She is so strong. They both are. Logan got the best parents in the world," says Mary Reynolds, Logan's grandmother.
From strangers to siblings, the heart of a hero comes in all forms.
"How are we going to repay all this? And hopefully someday we'll be able to pay it forward and help another family along the way," says Tracy Nathan.
The Nathans are a family of fighters and Logan's Heroes will make sure they never give up.
"Everyone's been through hard times and they're going to help them get over it," says Roth.
More than 250 people showed up to the dinner and auction, raising almost $11,000.
Bruce's hometown of Madison, Nebraska will host a pancake feed on October 11th at the Knights of Columbus Hall from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
