Two Sioux City men are dead after an early morning crash between two semis and an SUV.

It happened just before 2:00 in the morning, south of the Floyd Monument when an SUV hit a semi head-on. The SUV had been driving the wrong way in the northbound lane of I-29, and the Police Department had recieved several calls about the vehicle just before it hit the semi. A second semi tried to avoid the accident and swerved, hitting the SUV and flipping over on its side. That semi was a Dunham Transport truck, carrying anhydrous ammonia.

The two people inside the SUV, 33-year-old Brian Cagley and 36-year-old Rodney Anderson both of Sioux City died on the scene, Anderson was thrown from the vehicle. It has not yet been determined if alcohol was involved.

36-year-old Milton Christensen of Bennington, Nebraska was driving a Sterling Transport Services grain truck, and suffered minor injuries after the cab was completely burned. The driver of the second semi, 61-year-old Edward Dunham of Wannaska, MN was uninjured and there was no leakage of ammonia.

The north and southbound lanes of I-29 were both closed until about 10:00 a.m.
