First E85 Pumps Come to Sioux City

Another fuel alternative has come to Sioux City and it can save you money. Now drivers have the option of filling up with E85, a blend of ethanol and gasoline. Reporter Samantha Suttle has the details.

The first gas station to carry E85 fuel has opened in Sioux City. It's the Sinclair station at the corner of Dace and Steuben Street.

"There's been a lot of demand for it. The dealerships are selling a lot of flex fuel vehicles so therefore they're wanting the fuel and we had the option to bring it on board," says Sapp Brothers Manager Kim Brainard.

The Sapp Brothers Petroleum Company supplies the fuel to the station.

"It's more environmentally friendly; it helps the economy of the farmer. It also does not pollute as much as the regular fuel," says Brainard.

But in today's economy, E85's biggest plus is the lower price.

"It will be roughly 30 to 40 cents a gallon cheaper than what the unlead is and probably around 30 cents a gallon cheaper than super unleaded," says Brainard.

But Brainard warns drivers to be careful, because not all cars and trucks are compatible. He suggests you check with your dealership to see if your vehicle can run on the fuel.

"People will gravitate to it just because of the price and they need to kind of watch what they're doing with E85 if their vehicle isn't set up for it," says Brainard.

A new arrival to town, providing the next generation of fuel at a lower price.

Sapp Brothers is offering a house card called the "Sapp Brothers Express Card." It will provide an additional discount on every gallon of gas you purchase at the new Sinclair station. To take advantage of the savings, visit the Sapp Brothers' office to sign up for the card.
