(SIOUX CITY, IA) St. Luke's welcomed its first triplets of 2010 around 7:30 AM Monday morning. In an instant, the family of Dawn Dodds and fiance Joey Bruns doubled in size, from three to six. The couple has a 14-month-old daughter and will soon bring home three tiny bundles of joy.
Dawn Dodds is not new to motherhood but she never planned on multiples.
"Well we found out at 18 weeks we were having triplets so at first we didn't even know," says Dawn Dodds, mother of triplets.
"When I found out I was having triplets, I pretty much went crazy," says Joey Bruns, father of triplets.
Dawn and Joey wanted just one more child but ended up with three.
"We go from three to six real fast. It happened in a blink," says Bruns.
"No sleep, no nothing. No time to ourselves. It's just going to be fast. Time's going to fly," says Dodds.
The boys are spending their first hours sleeping in the NICU.
"Every dad wants a son," says Bruns.
Aiden Paul, Trystan Dean, and Ethan William are healthy at 34 weeks and already have more in common with their father than they realize.
"I was born February 1, 1987 and I am 23 years of age," says Bruns.
Joey was also born premature and now he has three tiny birthday presents.
"I don't think it's really kicked in yet but it's amazing. I mean, you can't ask for much more. You really can't," says Bruns.
"Just to be happy, live happy and healthy," says Dodds.
The birth of triplets is the ultimate birthday gift for this father. And after four in two years, it's a gift Dawn doesn't plan on giving again.
"Yes I'm done. Done, done, done. We'll be busy enough," says Dodds.
The triplets were born naturally without the help of fertility treatments. Both sides of the family have twins but Aiden, Trystan and Ethan are the first triplets.
