(SIOUX CITY, IA) Elected officials got a chance to find out how Iowa's child welfare system is doing. The informational forum at the Four Directions Community Center gave Sioux City's Native American community the opportunity to talk about the positive collaboration between it and the Department of Human Services.
"But let me be very clear in saying that the rate of disparity and disproportionality of Native families in the system has lowered since we've been involved and since we've built partnerships with the Department of Human Services," says Frank LaMere, Four Directions Community Center.
LaMere also hopes the entire community will use the Four Directions Community Center and realize it can be a sanctuary for everyone, not just Native Americans.
